CASE I :
Both the numbers are near the base and below the base.
Eg: 9 x 8
In this case both 9 and 8 are near the base , ie 10.
To multiply these two numbers
- first we have to find the deviation from the base.
- ie, deviation = number - base
- here deviation of 9 is, 9 - 10 = -1
- and deviation of 8 is, 8 - 10 = -2
- the answer has two parts RHS and LHS
- RHS is product of deviations
- LHS is cross addition of number and deviation
In this situation the difference is that the deviation is +ve. Rest of the steps are the same.
Eg: 11 x 12
Eg : 101 x 102
In this example base is 100, so RHS need two digits.
CASE I I I:
One above the base and one below the base
Eg : 11 x 9
Here one of the deviations will be negative. So the final result will be in vinculum form. So to get the natural number we have to convert the vinculum.
